Language Box

When we make an excuse, we often have to give a story explaining exactly how something happened.

We often use the past continuous at the beginning of stories to 'set the sentence':
It was snowing on that cold February morning in Chicago.

In stories, use the past continuous with the past simple when a shorter action happens in the middle of a longer one.
Just as I was writing the cheques, we had a power cut.

You can also use the past continuous for actions happening at the same time:
She was processing the orders at the same time as she was talking to a customer on the phone.

  • It's common for employees to be late
    • Punctuality

Hint

Remember that the word actually means 'in fact' or 'really':
- I haven't actually started the project yet.
- Actually, my surname's Henson, not Huson.

We often use really to make what we are saying softer or less direct:
- I haven't really met the target we agreed don.
- I don't really like the design.

Subject: New challenge for iPhone appStore

Hi team,

In the last executive managers meeting, we decided to challenge the new mobile market. We will be one of the game providers for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We have thought it will be a good chance to introduce our company to world wide gamers and earn the benefit from the Apple appStore as a new distribution channel.

We need to decide on the strategy plan and how to setup our development environment for this.

First of all we need to think about the genre or type of the game. I think the iPhone users do not like heavy games because theyd like to move everywhere around with their device iPhone, and have it is a very limited device even though the iPhone is one of the most powerful mobile devices. What do you think about casual games?

The second thing we need to know is research on the mobile game market and its trends. I think it would be helpful if we could know the major trend of the iPhone games.

Something else And thirdly we have to do is know the cost to setup a development environment for the iPhone. Who We need to know the cost of appropriate computer specifications, development tool, iPhone handset and anything else we need to buy?

The last thing is the account manager. We need someone to discuss the contract between the Apple and us. Whos going to be responsible for the dealing with them?

Please let me know if you have any idea about this.

Thanks,

Ryan
